since elementary schools end early, we bring Chinese club to the school during the week!

We partner with various schools in town to offer introductory playtime classes after school, modeled after our Chinese Club activities table. Contact us if you’re a school representative who would like to add Mandarin Chinese to its afterschool curriculum. If you currently attend the following elementary schools, please look out for sign-up notices on ParentSquare, or enroll directly via our Homeroom Portal (GUSD schools only).

Chinese Club 中文俱乐部 at UCSB’s Pardall Center: Thursdays 2:30 - 4pm

Enrollment is currently OPEN for our free-form Chinese Club that after-school enrichment classes are modeled after! Chinese Club - done the SBCS way - enables students to speak Chinese while engaged in various activities such as origami folding, paper cutting, reviewing flashcards, learning lyrics via Karaoke, reading books, and getting Chinese tutoring time, etc. These conversation tables are designed to provide a safe space for children to speak Chinese and meet others who are doing the same. Club membership dues can be collected via our Enrollment Portal and are used to cover material, labor, transportation, and include the following:

  • Weekly Mandarin Conversation Tables 中文桌子 in Goleta (Think Chinese Playtimes and Office Hours in Mandarin)

  • Snack breaks where various Asian foods and drinks are introduced, alongside table manners and taste vocabulary

  • One family gathering per month, usually accompanied by a curated Chinese karaoke or movie night with dinner (so may go over time).

  • Priority Invitation to Off-site Special Excursions at various attractions around Santa Barbara (in English & Mandarin for the entire family!)

Sing & storytime with Miss Chloe 老师歌唱/故事小组 aka. 日常溜娃 (FREE) : Thursdays, 9:30-10:00 am, followed by free play afterward

This informal gathering was created organically to get parents with toddlers together to share resources and experiences. We are here to support our Chinese-speaking families and give their toddlers an outlet to learn and play before school begins. Our very own Miss Chloe 林老师 hosts these weekly play dates at various parks in Santa Barbara and Goleta. Sing-along session is only 30 minutes long and starts at 9:30am sharp, so don’t be late! Parents are welcome to hang out and socialize or picnic together afterwards. Reach out to Miss Chloe to join the WeChat group today.

Private Mandarin or Cantonese Playtimes: Customized time and location

Form your group of 4-8 students and we can work out a time, space, and curriculum that is suitable to your children’s needs. Subject to instructor availability. Get in touch here.

SCHOOL POLICY & Please reference our academic year calendar to plan accordingly. Thank you!

  • TUITION: After School Enrichment Programs at various elementary schools are individually priced and accessible via Homeroom. Chinese Clubs are donation-based, $100+ per month. Thursday play dates are always FREE.

  • Consistent attendance is recommended for students to maintain progress. Absences are at the discretion of the students and their respective family members, though students/families should notify in advance of any class that will be missed.

  • In the event that a suitable class isn’t available, parents are welcome to rally at least 4 students to form a class and request for private sessions.

  • Students must be potty trained and have basic communication skills in order to attend our in-person classes or Chinese Club. Our youngest students tend to be at least 4 years of age.

  • Unless there is an emergency, leaving class early and chronic tardiness is not acceptable. Students are expected to attend the entire period of class. Please plan your other activities to begin after classes have ended.

  • REFUND POLICY: Applicable to Weekend Classes and After School Enrichment Programs only. Withdrawals prior to the start of class can be refunded, less a $50 administrative fee to cover the cost of registration services. To be fair to teachers and students who attend 100% of the time, withdrawals after registration closes - including sick leaves - are not refundable.
